Bienvenido USA Applauds Trump Administration's Historic Expansion of Education Freedom for Hispanic Families

Bienvenido USA, the nation's leading Hispanic civic engagement organization, today issued the following statement in support of the Trump Administration's continued expansion of educational freedom, following the White House's celebration of the new school year with students, parents, and education advocates.

Statement from Ashley B. Cash, Board of Directors of Bienvenido USA:

“Nearly one in three public school students in America today are Hispanic, 14.4 million children, up from one in four just a decade ago. This community is not a footnote in the future of American education. Our children are the future of American education, and it is long past time Washington prioritized parent's rights to choose a school that serves their children.

For years, American families have been forced to attend schools based on their Zip code and told to make it work. This year alone, nearly two out of three Hispanic parents went looking for something better for their child, a higher rate than the national average. That is not a statistic. That is a generation of mothers and fathers refusing to settle for less than their children deserve.

President Trump and Secretary McMahon heard that call. The Education Freedom Tax Credit does not ask our families to wait in line behind a system that has never had to answer to them; it hands them the keys. The Education Freedom Tax Credit provides a $1,700 tax credit per family with children in the K-12 public school system and provides a historic $500M investment in public charter schools. Bienvenido USA has spent years telling Washington that Americans don't want a handout, we want a fair shot. Today, we are closer to that fair shot than at any point in this nation's history, and we intend to make sure every family in America knows it.”
